So far 2017 has started off with a bang!  With two chapter meetings completed, one on Demystifying Change Management and the other on Dealing with Advanced Persistent Threats on IT, HDI Philly Chapter is gearing up for a great year ahead. Attendance and participation in the local chapter continues to be at an all-time high and we look forward to increasing our membership and programming efforts for 2017 and beyond.

With this said, last week HDI Philly hosted the security meeting at Widener University-Delaware Law School in Wilmington, DE.  Dawn-Marie Hutchinson from Optiv Security Inc. presented Dealing with Advanced Persistent Threats on IT where she reviewed common security misconceptions and even a few scary behaviors.

Areas covered during her talk included:

  • Why security is like dodge ball...

  • Fighting millions of threats at a time...

  • The one primary weakness of security: THE USER

  • The complexities of social engineering

  • Why help desks are the first line of attack

In addition to Dawn-Marie’s keynote we held a great panel discussion on Panel Discussion: Security from our POV.  This was a very interactive discussion where we discussed all aspects of security and how these security professionals are dealing with them inside of their organizations.

Panelists

  • Anahi Santiago, CISM - Chief Information Security Officer, Christiana Care Health System

  • John Abella - System Director, Information Security and Enterprise Architecture, Main Line Health
